The Relevance of Gender

By: Karl Greene (View Profile)

Am I the only male member of this site? Obviously, this site is for women, but the stories are so good, the writing is so good, and I don’t want to miss any of it.

Somehow or other, I ran across another Divine Caroline story about why one of the writers chooses to live in San Francisco. That was my story too, so I read further. I was given the gift of the story about going to church to sing a solo. That story also sounded so much like my story. So, here I am. I expect to check in often. I’m old, now; in my sixties. When I was young, the slight matter of gender would’ve been a big issue. I would not have joined this Web site. But, thanks be to God, we now live in an entirely different world.

The social changes of the past forty years have been astounding. For me, it all began when I started living in San Francisco in 1970. I’m a gay man. That’s relevant because that has given me a taste of what it’s like to be second-class: a woman or black or … being gay has enabled me to experience real life with all kinds of people, both women and men. I hope it has made me less judgmental and more forgiving.

Well, most of the time, anyway.

I want to give you a warm welcome! I hope you write about the experiences you've had throughout your life. I know that the members of this site would love to hear about your personal experiences because all of us grow when we read them. Keep writing!

Thanks, Rebecca, for the warm welcome. I certainly will contribute some of my own stories. Some experiences are breathtaking for me but other people, women & men, respond with a tiresome, "That's nice." I may find people here who know what it is to be blown away by extraordinary experiences.

Welcome, Karl! We have lots of male members, and we love hearing their stories and perspectives. I’m so glad that you’ve found some stories that touched you - I hope that you’ll contribute some of your own as I’m sure you have experiences that would move others, too. Nice to have you as part of the community … we’re glad you’re here!
It feels good to write.

Your stories, musings, and advice are welcome here. We know you've got something to share, so jump in—maybe get a little famous. And don't worry—you can save a draft!
