What’s the Best Gift You’ve Ever Given or Received?

By: Jacinta O’Halloran (View Profile)

As I pulled the slender box from under the tree, my mind raced with possibilities. Ripping the paper away, I found a small box of coloring pencils. “Huh?” The attached note read “you fill my life with color, now go fill yours,” and it included a certificate to a local art class, something I’d been feeling too busy to sign up for myself. I burst into tears. What’s your gift giving—or receiving—high point?

The giveaway ended Dec 17th, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways soon and stand by for an announcement about our winner.

The best gift I have received is a new Mustang in bright red. I love it.

The best gift I ever received was this cute ornament from my mom when I was in my teenage years. It was a little mouse wearing a pair of headphones. Since I am a huge music fan and always seem to be wearing headphones, receiving it was a dream come true. It was also great how it played a Christmas song when you pushed a button on it.

My best gift is the little pinkie ring my husband made me. He was away on deployment and spent a lot of his "down" time working on it. He gave it to me when he got home. It's a simple band with a heart on it yet it is more precious to me than any diamond necklace would ever be.

Our only child, a son, had left for Virginia Tech University in the fall. I became so depressed from being an emptynester, I could barely get off the sofa. One day, just before the Holidays, I walked into the family room to once more lie down on the sofa. I heard whimpering coming from the laundry room. I asked my husband what was that. Telling me to close my eyes, I heard him open the laundry room door and the next thing I knew there was a wrigling fluffy coal black tiny poodle licking me in the face. She was so black and as we live in coal country, we named her Ne'-Coal Onyx. Oh, she needed me and how badly I wanted to be needed again. She gave me reason to get off the couch, to get up and do. Niki is 13 now and still needs me. All she seems to want in life is to eat, play and be close to where I am. What a wonderful gift she has been all these years when her needs have helped to heal my needs. My husband is a very wise man.
Besides my son and husband-my grand daughters are the most exciting and supreme!

Would it be to cheesy to say my daughter? It seems cheesy but it's so true.
In the fall of 1995, our dog passed away. We had her for 14 years and she was in failing health for several years. For Christmas that year, my hubby gave me a 1-page 1996 calendar with a picture of our dog on it. Of course I cried. Although many years have passed since then, I still have that calendar posted. I touch it occasionally and remember how great a dog she was.

The first and second Christmas after we were married, my husband and I bought "First Christmas Together" and "Second Christmas Together" ornaments, but we couldnt find one for the third year, so he made me one without my knowledge.

After a grueling five-day trek on the famed Inca Trail in Peru, my feet ached and my toenails were actually beginning to fall off (ew, I know!) The surrounding scenery was amazing, but I was miserable. So my fiance "ponied up" $18 to rent me a horse to ride partway up the mountain. When we finally reached the summit (him on foot!), I told him on the spot that it was the best gift that I had every received!

the best gift I ever recieved was a little cedar box from my brother when I was six. He had worked at odd jobs, saved his money to buy this for Christmas. I loved it. That was over 50 years ago and he has gone to heaven. I still have the little box. It is my most valued treasure.
