What’s the Best Gift You’ve Ever Given or Received?

By: Jacinta O’Halloran (View Profile)

As I pulled the slender box from under the tree, my mind raced with possibilities. Ripping the paper away, I found a small box of coloring pencils. “Huh?” The attached note read “you fill my life with color, now go fill yours,” and it included a certificate to a local art class, something I’d been feeling too busy to sign up for myself. I burst into tears. What’s your gift giving—or receiving—high point?

The giveaway ended Dec 17th, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways soon and stand by for an announcement about our winner.

My best Christmas present was last year when the entire family was together, something that seldom happens.

One Christmas my family was coming to celebrate at my home. I was way behind in preparations and was in full panic mode. The night before they were to arrive they called and said surprise we're not coming until the day after tomorrow. Yay! The gift of time during the holiday season is priceless. Oh and they stayed and extra day at the end to make up for the missed time :)

Some gifts, the intangible ones, never break, wear out, or go out of style. They are easy to keep tucked into a corner of your heart. When I left home to get married 26 years ago, my father put his arm around me and said, "Remember, you can always move back home." I'm married to a wonderful man, so have never taken my father up on his offer. However, knowing that my parents' home is always open is a gift I treasure.

I gave my sister a scrapbook filled with our old family pictures. I also had my mom and dad write some of their personal memories of some of the pictures. My sister had tears in her eyes when she opened it. It was a good feeling to know someone really appreciated a present I gave them.
I received a tin that said mammas sugar on it, inside were items from my husband growing up
baby shoes, hand print pictures birth cert you get the idea. It was a wedding gift from my mother in law i cried
