What’s the Best Gift You’ve Ever Given or Received?

By: Jacinta O’Halloran (View Profile)

As I pulled the slender box from under the tree, my mind raced with possibilities. Ripping the paper away, I found a small box of coloring pencils. “Huh?” The attached note read “you fill my life with color, now go fill yours,” and it included a certificate to a local art class, something I’d been feeling too busy to sign up for myself. I burst into tears. What’s your gift giving—or receiving—high point?

The giveaway ended Dec 17th, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways soon and stand by for an announcement about our winner.

My best best gift was a trip to London, England. We did a tour of Scotland and Wales. I wish it could have lasted forever. Wonderful fun!
On Valentine's Day I usually get a nice card from my husband, probably purchased at the grocery store on the way home from work. Nothing wrong with that, but I've always longed for a gift with a little more forethought. I was surprised this year to find that he had actually taken the time to go out beforehand and purchase me a beautiful silver locket. I put a picture of him in it, and I wear it every day. It reminds me of how much he loves me, and it always keeps him with me, close to my heart, wherever I go. It's the best gift I've ever received.

When my husband booked a cruise for our family aboard the Disney cruise ship. It was such a nice quiet vacation. It ended far too soon!
One year I made memory books for all of my kids. I put in pictures and their life story. No one knew I was doing it. Not even my husband. I had 5 kids so it was hard to do.

The best gift I ever received is a silver bracelet from my daughter on mother's day. I never take it off because it's a reminder of why I'm on this earth. When I feel down and I feel like I have no purpose in life, it's there to remind me that somebody loves and needs me. It reminds me that I have to take the next step, that I have to take the next breath, and that I have to succeed. It reminds me that someboy is depending on me to be there and that I have somebody when I feel so alone. I love my daughter and it's my way of keeping her with me always.

I got a computer and learned how to use it. I can stay in touch with my family and friends even though my husband retired and we moved away.
