At the bottom of the profile was a nonsense word that I did not recognize, so I Googled it. Up popped Dick’s user name on another dating site that he had been using for two years prior. It took me two more weeks to report him to the dating site. I kept thinking of some other woman getting caught up in his lies and felt so guilty… the site service rep listened patiently and empathetically and said that she would report him herself. They removed both of his profiles from the site immediately.
I saved all of his IMs and email so that I could prove his complicity if he ever came after me. I have not been in the dating game long, but this was a rough lesson to learn. I feel sorry for him and for his wife and kids. Life must be hell in that house. I thank heaven that I was delivered from that mess. I guess this is rather long for a parable, but is one nonetheless. I’ve learned that I need to ask the questions and wait to get answers. I will trust my instincts and trust the advice of those who’ve been there, those who love and care for me and those whose sense of decency I trust. Dating has changed tremendously over the last twenty years. I would have preferred an old-fashioned ‘last call’ hook-up to this crap. Live and learn!
