As we plan for our ideal delivery and contemplate the possibilities of our plans not going just perfectly…it is child birth after all. It is wise to have a plan in place. I propose creating a plan that makes sense for you. Most importantly share it with your doctor to insure it’s possible and that the facility or hospital can handle your specific requests. For instance, not all hospitals have bath tubs or wireless equipment that allow you free access to roam once you have been “hooked up”.
Here’s an easy to print version or please feel free to copy and paste to amend to your own desires. This of course is my personal guideline for my twins and can be a quick resource or please tailor to your own needs.

The following are the guidelines by which we would like to follow during our labor, delivery and stay.
1) No Assisted delivery techniques unless life saving for mom or child. These include the use of Forceps, Vacuum or Suction, C-section or Episiotomy.
2) We respectfully request that our Labor team include 3 people: father, family member and labor support person.
3) Father & Baby. We wish to have a family member accompany either twin at all times. Father will go stay with babies at all times. Should the twins need to be separated from one another and both to leave mother then Father and family member will accompany each twin.
4) Mother. In the event both babies are in need of assistance. Father & family member will leave with babies. Friend/labor support person will remain with mother. Please keep this person apprised of all medical details related to both children.
5) Drugs. We will ask for an epidural if/when the pain is too much. We do not want any narcotics administered at any time, unless consented by mother or father in case of emergency procedure.
6) IV & Electronic Monitoring – We fully understand the benefits of the IV and would like a moveable stand. However, nothing other than hydrating fluids should be administered without the parent’s prior consent. We would like to be able to move around in support of the labor process. We would like to be able to remove the monitors when possible to move around or wear wireless monitors if available.
