Mom’s Sour Cream Apple Pie Recipe

By: Molly Parsley (View Profile)

My mom makes the best apple pie! And yes, the secret ingredient is sour cream... and the granny smith apples.

Every Thanksgiving and Christmas we'll make this apple pie together and every now and then I'll make it for my friends and they love it.

Since this is – one of the – best bits of info my mom has ever shared with me, I'd like to share it with you. So here it is (drum roll please), my mom's highly desired sour cream apple pie recipe:

Molly's Mom's Sour Cream Apple Pie

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 c. sour cream
  • dash cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 cups Granny smith appeles, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 tsp flour

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS:
sift dry ingredients together. Add egg, sour cream, vanilla, and melted butter.  Pour in unbaked pie shell. Top with pie shell cut into shapes of leaves or grapes. Brush with butter and sprinkle of sugar. Bake 15 minutes at 400°. Reduce heat to 350° and bake 30 minutes.

Wow, this sounds delicious! I have never tried sour cream in apple pie, but I bet it gives it a nice, creamy kick.
