Immerse Yourself in the Season of Autumn

For most of us, this is the time when we begin the autumn season. For this is the time when the grass begins to turn brown; the winds are shifting toward a cooler breeze. The leaves are beginning to turn, revealing an abundance of color. The trees are moving toward giving up all of their leaves to hold up their bare, empty branches to the sky. There’s a hint in the air that winter is coming; a fragrance of decaying foliage; the sound of rustling leaves. Autumn is upon us.

Autumn is a season of transition—change is in the air. Autumn is a season of harvest—there is a bounty of color and beauty. Autumn is a season of trust—trust in the essential core of goodness in the branches underneath. Ultimately, autumn is a season of letting go and of being open in order to receive new life once again.

Autumn reminded me the other day to take notice that the leaves on one of the trees outside my home had already turned red—faster than the other similar trees in the yard. I went out to take a few photos of the leaves, for they grabbed my attention and reminded me of God’s outpouring of love.

Here are a few suggestions to tend to your soul this week (use what is helpful and ignore the rest):

During this time of autumn, allow this season of beauty, of change, and of transition to nourish your spirit.

Maybe spend some time to be out in nature among the exquisiteness of autumn.

Take a walk—moving your feet through the leaves and decaying foliage while taking in all the sights and smells and sounds of autumn.

Immerse yourself as fully as possible in this season of autumn—pay close attention to how you experience the Spirit moving in the fall air.

May this season of autumn grant you a harvest of nourishment with the Spirit. Blessings this day!
