Love’s Sweet Lesson, to Obey

I pray God this day steady heads for you and me; to encourage our frustrated dreams: to take away the lure of mortal temptations, fresh and new and (the worst part) painfully difficult to let go.

I pray God a lovely heart for you, a simple mind for my many complex issues, and a fortified spirit to let go of old, destructive fantasies.

I pray God this day many a lovely word your wise lips to share; all things great and pleasant and comforting your mind’s eye to behold.

I pray God this day many a forgotten promise to remind to keep (on your part, mine, and others’); all the million and one sleepy heads to shake into reality, and the soothing taste of a belated but fulfilled vow teary eyes to welcome—Amen!

Today, this day, I pray God all our many awful sins to be forgiven (and forgotten, as we do others’)—the fullness of His Mercies and Grace and Blessings and Power our wanting faces to see.

This day, I pray God the enduring capacities of HOPE restored in all our seemingly hopeless situations.

I pray God to teach us day by day love’s sweet lesson to obey, like it’s said in that wonderful song—LOVE, like it’s the only real treasure we ever would have (apart from wisdom, and the understanding of it), with all of our minds and souls and might.
