What Memories Do You Have from Your First Concert?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Let’s take it back to the fifth grade. It’s my best friend’s birthday. The night started out with all of us going over to her house. We did each others make-up, picked out the “perfect” outfits and practiced the lyrics over and over again until we had them memorized. As we walked through the doors of the Rose Garden Arena we felt ten times older than we were. All five of us including her mom stood up a little taller than normal. We took our seats and then the music started “Ohhhhh … I’m just a girl …” the crowd went crazy. The lights, the sound, the audience, lit up and didn’t stop for two hours. We felt like we were on top of the world and all grown up.

Everyone has vivid memories about the first concert they’ve ever gone to. Whether it was Michael Jackson, Eddie Money, or Poison, chime in to tell us the first concert you went to.

The giveaway ended June 27th, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways and stand by for an announcement about our winner.

My first concert was none other than Melanie C aka Sporty Spice. I skipped school so I could line up 6 hours early and maybe catch a glimpse of Ms. Chisholm with the 5 other fanatics waiting in line. When she did come out, everyone who arrived late butted their way to the front and hogged her. That was OK though, because her assistant gave us an unsigned 8X10 as compensation.

When the show started, it was wild! All of us boppers thought we were so hardcore when Mel played her faux punk/rock song "Goin' Down." Imagine us 14 year olds trying to start what we thought was a mosh pit. Then Mel slowed it down and sung her ode to the homeless, "If That Were Me," and we all sang along. There wasn't a dry eye in the house when everyone knew the words to, "I couldn't live without my phone/ But you don't even have a home." Good times! Good times.

Girl power!!!!!!

My first concert was an outdoor show by Sting. I guess you could say that I started out with the best!

My first concert was in the late 1970s at a Phillies baseball doubleheader. In between games Pat Benatar performed. It was about a half hour concert but she was terrific.

My first concert was Guster at the Wetlands in NYC. I was only 15 and my mom wouldn't let me go into the city without an adult. My strongest memory had to do more with the thrill of sneaking out than the actual music!

My parents, in the early 80s took me and my sister to ShaNaNa. I was soooo excited to see Bowser in real life!

My first concert was Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine. I went with my parents and a friend of theirs. I was sooo excited about this concert. I was probably 11 years old. I remember dancing to all of the music and having such a good time! "Conga" was the best! We danced like crazy!
