What Memories Do You Have from Your First Concert?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Let’s take it back to the fifth grade. It’s my best friend’s birthday. The night started out with all of us going over to her house. We did each others make-up, picked out the “perfect” outfits and practiced the lyrics over and over again until we had them memorized. As we walked through the doors of the Rose Garden Arena we felt ten times older than we were. All five of us including her mom stood up a little taller than normal. We took our seats and then the music started “Ohhhhh … I’m just a girl …” the crowd went crazy. The lights, the sound, the audience, lit up and didn’t stop for two hours. We felt like we were on top of the world and all grown up.

Everyone has vivid memories about the first concert they’ve ever gone to. Whether it was Michael Jackson, Eddie Money, or Poison, chime in to tell us the first concert you went to.

My memory is only from a few years ago. Traveling 9 hours north in a car to be deaf for another 8. It was awesome!

My very first concert was with my mother and her best friend and her daughter who was the same age as me. I don't remember much else except it was The Carpenters. However, the first concert I went to without a parent was America. It was 1974 and we were seniors in high school. It was Thanksgiving night and we didn't have tickets. My two friends were able to buy tickets, but I didn't have one. A friend of ours was a DJ on a local station and thankfully we ran into him. He told them to wait to make sure I got in with him and his wife. We went up to the door and he told them what station he was from and that he was supposed to have 3 passes waiting for him. They gave him the three passes, no questions asked. We had seats in the third row in the center in the orchestra pit!! It was awesome. They had seats in the balconly almost at the back. I was in heaven, they were pretty upset about their seats.

My virst concert that I can remember seeing was when I was 5 or 6. My mom and grandparents took me with them to see The Statler Brother. My family was always big country music fans. I'm sure there were some other singers or group with the Statlers but I just remember them and Harold, the bass singer making jokes about the pretty girls in the audience. I'm still a fan of theirs after all these years.
The class was a Psychology class my first year of junior college, The teacher was lecturing on The ID I was fighting to stay focused. There was a tap on my shoulder from behind me. Somebody with the bluest eyes I had ever seen passed me a note. I waited untill after class to read it. It was from blue eyes and the words he wrote on that paper jumped out at me like diamonds in the night. He asked me if i would go with him to a Credence Clearwater concert.. I shared the note with my best friend Julie . When I told her who had asked me she knew right away it was that dreamy guy with blue eyes. His name was Michael. But her next words knocked me off my cloud. She said you know he's deaf don't you?Needless to say I was shocked. At my next class I gave him a note back accepting his invitation. The concert was fun .Since I did not understand sign language we wrote notes back and forth He told me he could feel the vibrations from the band That was the way he"listened to the music!!!!
My parents took me to see the Moody Blues (my mother's favorite band from her high school days) when I was about 7 at an outdoor amphitheater. I fell in love with the rock and roll concert atmosphere then and there.

Deep Purple! I don't remember what year. It was awesome!
I was in seventh grade and my friend got us tickets to see Elton John. When he played Bennie and the Jets, he threw the piano bench. We all screamed with excitement.
