What Memories Do You Have from Your First Concert?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Let’s take it back to the fifth grade. It’s my best friend’s birthday. The night started out with all of us going over to her house. We did each others make-up, picked out the “perfect” outfits and practiced the lyrics over and over again until we had them memorized. As we walked through the doors of the Rose Garden Arena we felt ten times older than we were. All five of us including her mom stood up a little taller than normal. We took our seats and then the music started “Ohhhhh … I’m just a girl …” the crowd went crazy. The lights, the sound, the audience, lit up and didn’t stop for two hours. We felt like we were on top of the world and all grown up.

Everyone has vivid memories about the first concert they’ve ever gone to. Whether it was Michael Jackson, Eddie Money, or Poison, chime in to tell us the first concert you went to.

My first concert was Ozzy Osborne with Type O Negative and Sepultura sometime around the summer of '96. I was about 16 then. I had never heard any music from Sepultura but they completely blew me away that night. I've been a fan ever since. Ozzy was great as usual.

My first concert was held in a school auditorium, I don't even remember the name of the singer, I just know I went because the guy I liked, liked this singer, lol, I think I was in 9th grade.

My first concert was Little River Band in Tulsa probably 1979 or 1980. I was a sophomore or junior in high school. I even came back with one of those black tour tshirts.

My first concert was at Radio City Music Hall in NYC in 1977, and I saw Linda Rondstadt perform. Members of the audience kept yelling out "Heat Wave" but Ms. Rondstadt refused to sing this hit song. She wanted to sing newer songs from her latest album. She was fabulous, young and beautiful. I went with a guy I hardly knew from my college, but he was nice and so were two of his friends who went with us. One of his friends was a priest. I remember thinking how odd it was for a priest to be at a rock concert. I remember his white collar. After the concert, I do not remember if we just all went back home. I just remember being enthralled by the experience and hooked. I wanted to see so many other live performances and I did and I have, and I still do.

My first real concert was probably John Mayer at the Houston Rodeo during my college years! I just remember how fun it was to watch him make his famous faces while he serenaded the crowd! It was awesome!

My first concert was Ted Nugent back in 1978. I was 15 and wasn't allowed to go to concerts. Well, I told my parents that I was going to my girlfriend's house to spend the night and snuck to the concert with some friends. We took the subway to the stadium, then enjoyed Ted (in his loin cloth of course) rock the house! I was nervous the whole time because I was worried my parents were going to find out I had lied to them! Then, after the concert, the subway was packed with many wasted concert-goers. Someone threw up on the ride home who was sitting right next to my friend. What I thought was going to be a fun night ended up being pretty horrible! At least Ted was great! :-)

My first concert was a birthday present for my little sister. I was 17 and she was 15. I took her to see Alan Jackson (which was her favorite at the time.) I'm not much f a country music fan, but I have to admit he rocks the stage. The hilarious point of the concert was when my sister flung her panties on the stage. They landed on his guitar, and at the EXACT moment they hit, his wedding ring glinted in the lights. She was mortified. I thought it was hilarious.

Embarassingly enough, my first concert was a Britney Spears concert. I was about ten years old and my mother and I rode a train for six hours to attend the concert. However, on the way there the train was delayed for some reason and even went backwards at one point...I was crying thinking that I was going to miss the concert but we made it just in time and would you believe that I was disappointed? LOL
