What Memories Do You Have from Your First Concert?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Let’s take it back to the fifth grade. It’s my best friend’s birthday. The night started out with all of us going over to her house. We did each others make-up, picked out the “perfect” outfits and practiced the lyrics over and over again until we had them memorized. As we walked through the doors of the Rose Garden Arena we felt ten times older than we were. All five of us including her mom stood up a little taller than normal. We took our seats and then the music started “Ohhhhh … I’m just a girl …” the crowd went crazy. The lights, the sound, the audience, lit up and didn’t stop for two hours. We felt like we were on top of the world and all grown up.

Everyone has vivid memories about the first concert they’ve ever gone to. Whether it was Michael Jackson, Eddie Money, or Poison, chime in to tell us the first concert you went to.

I was a teen at a Rolling Stones concert. Sat in the second row near the speaker. That was the day my left ear blew and it has never been the same nor have I. i still listen to loud music.

I was 15, it was Van Halen, and I wound up with a contact high from how much pot the neighboring audience smoked. I was pretty scared of the tracers. But the concert was awesome otherwise.

When I was a teenager, we stayed up all night in front of a drugstore to be one of the first to get tickets to the Jacksons Victory tour. It was nerveracking and exciting being out on the street all night. We made friends with the other people relaxing in our lounge chairs through the middle of the night. It paid off. We ended up with tenth row tickets. Not bad I think. I literally could see the sweat pouring off of Michael Jackson's head. It was an awesome concert. If only the Jacksons could have remained frozen in time since they were so incredible back then.

the first concert I ever went sometime in 1975 I think? It was the Eagles and Seals and Croft.............I had no idea the Eagles would turn out to be so successful a group.............and we had terrific seats to, it was outside but they were about 7 rows from the front.

REO Speedwagon when I was 16 on a school night and I got to bed at 2:00 and had to be for school the next day, but it was awesome!

1st concert that I can remember (other than the choir concerts I'd performed in) was Aretha Franklin at Interlochen Arts Camp near Traverse City, MI when I was about 12. I was there for camp with a bunch of my friends and there she was, singing her heart out on the stage, incredible!
Then, a moment seared on my memory... she comes out towards the end of the show wearing a dress with only one strap... and as she is singing... well, the inevitable "wardrobe malfunction" happened, as a woman that well-endowed should probably not be wearing a dress with only one strap. She hurried off the stage and fixed the problem, then came back and kept singing. Ahh, showbiz. :)

Of course this somehow just fueled my need to see live music (not for the chance to see mess-ups, but just the raw power of the performances) and I've seen many more concerts in the 15 years since that day.

My first and favorite concert was at what is now Thalia Mara Hall in Jackson, MS when my then boyfriend (now wonderful husband of 23 years on 6/8!) went with our best buds to see the infamous Stevie Ray Vaughn and the Thunderbirds! It was simply awesome! We remember Stevie Ray and his wonderful BLUES!!!!!!! MUNCHKIN56
The first concert I went to was Jethro Tull; in about 1972. My family lived in Jacksonville, Fl. at the time. One of my brothers liked one of my friends and had asked her to go to the concert with him. But she didn't like my brother that asked her to the concert; she liked my other brother.
She knew a guy that liked me; and when he asked me to go to the concert with him; she seized the opportunity. She said if I went to the concert with the guy that liked me (whom I didn't like) that she would go with my brother that had asked her. I knew how much my brother liked her and wanted to take her to the concert, so I said yes.
So there we all were at the Jethro Tull concert; with her acting like she wasn't with my brother and me trying to be nice to the guy that liked me; without encouraging him.
By the way; Jethro Tull was incredible.

the first concert i ever saw was the commodores - i was so excited - but you're not going to believe this their opening act was Luther Vandross. He was horrible - he couldn't sing - people were booing to get him off the stage. I'll never forget that night. Oh yeah - the Commodores and Lionel Ritchie were awesome!!!!
