What Memories Do You Have from Your First Concert?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Let’s take it back to the fifth grade. It’s my best friend’s birthday. The night started out with all of us going over to her house. We did each others make-up, picked out the “perfect” outfits and practiced the lyrics over and over again until we had them memorized. As we walked through the doors of the Rose Garden Arena we felt ten times older than we were. All five of us including her mom stood up a little taller than normal. We took our seats and then the music started “Ohhhhh … I’m just a girl …” the crowd went crazy. The lights, the sound, the audience, lit up and didn’t stop for two hours. We felt like we were on top of the world and all grown up.

Everyone has vivid memories about the first concert they’ve ever gone to. Whether it was Michael Jackson, Eddie Money, or Poison, chime in to tell us the first concert you went to.

If memory serves me, it was 1980, Pat Benatar. It was at Pine Knob in Clarkston, MI. Pine Knob was an outdoor arena. It is still there but not called Pine Knob. Drank a little, smoked a lot, had a fantastic time. "Heartbreaker" is still a great song.

I was in high school in the early sixties and a date took me to see James Brown. He was absolutely incredible! When he sang and danced to "I Feel Good", the audience roared and danced in the aisles. Needless to say, he got a standing ovation.

I had never been to a concert. For my wife's birthday I took her to a Neil Diamond concert. Such energy and emotion!! A little too loud, but the cigarette lighters during the song "Turn on Your Heart Light" was something to behold.

It was the eighties, and the people behind us were smoking. Have times ever changed!

I lived in a podunk town and never had an opportunity to see a big name concert until I vacationed at Miami Beach in 1967. The Yarbirds were playing one night at the local hot spot and I got to see and hear Jimmy Page only a few feet away play his 12 string guitar. Two nights later Cream was playing but we'd already seen our concert for the year. Now I kick myself thinking what I could have seen and heard just two days after the Yardbirds.
My first concert was C+C Music Factory. That was a moment I wanna forget.

I had to miss my first concert – had tickets to see the Doors. Had to have my tonsils removed instead – bummer!@!@

Saw Janice Joplin before she was well known, so good, so wild, so very long ago.
