What Memories Do You Have from Your First Concert?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Let’s take it back to the fifth grade. It’s my best friend’s birthday. The night started out with all of us going over to her house. We did each others make-up, picked out the “perfect” outfits and practiced the lyrics over and over again until we had them memorized. As we walked through the doors of the Rose Garden Arena we felt ten times older than we were. All five of us including her mom stood up a little taller than normal. We took our seats and then the music started “Ohhhhh … I’m just a girl …” the crowd went crazy. The lights, the sound, the audience, lit up and didn’t stop for two hours. We felt like we were on top of the world and all grown up.

Everyone has vivid memories about the first concert they’ve ever gone to. Whether it was Michael Jackson, Eddie Money, or Poison, chime in to tell us the first concert you went to.

My first concert was at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and it featured the Righteous Brothers. They were terrific. What was most memorable was that it was the first time I'd ever seen/smelled anybody smoke pot. I was 14, it was 1975, and I was SHOCKED.

It was a Neil Diamond concert and I promised myself I would be cool and mature...I screamed...many times!

My very first concert experience was when our youth group went to Jesus Northwest. Me and a few people bummed money from people the entire time!

I was in the 6th grade and my best friend won tickets to a concert at the Spectrum in Philly from a local radio station. We were in the nosebleed section and I almost fell over the railing! Scared the bejesus out of me and I will never forget that!

My parents took me to see David Cassidy (I think I was in 2nd Grade) at the Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, WV. I vaguely remember the concert, seeing David Cassidy on stage, and the boos when the warm-up band came on stage -- we had no idea why anyone other than David Cassidy would be singing. I never need any more proof that my parent's love me!

I have not been to any concerts, though it is nice to read about others experiences here.

The 1st one I remember was Jethro Tull. I have seen them 4 times in concert, and every one was good.
My first concert memory is not a pleasant one. I attended a Stryper concert in 9th grade and my friend and I had front row tickets. Yes, Stryper--I didn't have the best taste in music in 9th grade, okay? Back then Stryper had a huge fanbase, most of whom I think were standing behind us at this concert because halfway through the first song, my friend and I got smashed up against the barrier next to the stage when the crowd behind us surged forward. We were yelling and screaming for help but no one could hear us over all the other yelling. Finally, a nice, big security guard rescued us by physically lifting us up and over the barrier. We got to shake the lead singer's hand for our troubles, at least.
