What Memories Do You Have from Your First Concert?

By: Caitlin Goebel (View Profile)

Let’s take it back to the fifth grade. It’s my best friend’s birthday. The night started out with all of us going over to her house. We did each others make-up, picked out the “perfect” outfits and practiced the lyrics over and over again until we had them memorized. As we walked through the doors of the Rose Garden Arena we felt ten times older than we were. All five of us including her mom stood up a little taller than normal. We took our seats and then the music started “Ohhhhh … I’m just a girl …” the crowd went crazy. The lights, the sound, the audience, lit up and didn’t stop for two hours. We felt like we were on top of the world and all grown up.

Everyone has vivid memories about the first concert they’ve ever gone to. Whether it was Michael Jackson, Eddie Money, or Poison, chime in to tell us the first concert you went to.

I remember my dad taking me to see the Statler Brothers at our State Fair. It was awesome! I didn't get a chance to attend anther concert until I was in college and I saw Kenny Rogers.

Going to really date myself. First concert was the Bay City Rollers. My mother's so awesome she bought tickets and drove me OKC to see them when I was 13. Still have no idea how she afforded a road trip and the tickets but it's a night I will never forget!

My first concert was Barenaked Ladies at Pittsburgh's Polumbo Center in 1997. I wasn't really familiar with the band at the time, but they blew me away with their unique, funny, instantly catchy songs and their great on-stage rapport and improvisations. Also, the opening band was Guster, a band that I (and no one at the time) had really heard of, and I still have vivid memories of seeing the drummer banging with his bare hands -- I immediately fell in love with them and they continue to be one of my favorite bands today. Great memories!

I remember seeing Emerson Lake and Palmer in the 70's and was very impressed with their music and their light show. It was a good experience.
