Jumping to Conclusion

By: Brenda Harris (View Profile)

Please, don’t make the mistake that too many often make,
Just jumping to conclusion … for the facts please wait.
“Ms. Jones is my name,” she said, hanging her head in shame,
As her story she tried to explain.

The year was 1999; I got home for work picked up the phone,
Only to discover my husband on the line,
I guess I was at the right place at the wrong time.

“Leave her two thousand?” his best friend Rick asked with a giggle,
And Jason, my husband, replied with a giggle, “No doubt!”
I just couldn’t believe what they were talking about.

I hung up the phone softly, still in shock,
“Honey, I’m home,” I yelled, too afraid of what other secret doors would unlock.
“Hey boo, miss you,” Jason said, running down the stairs and giving me a kiss on the forehead.

I got to get to the gym before work, my body is so sore and my muscles hurt!
But, I’m gonna lose twenty-five pounds by 2000 you’ll see,
Rick, so crazy talking bout he gone lose forty.
I smiled and said, “Time will tell,”
and as I closed the door behind him a tear fell.

So heart broken to discover Jason was planning to leave,
In 2000, just a month and a half away.
I thought we were happy, but I found out the truth that day,
I had to come up with a plan to some how make him pay,
I filled a bucket up with water and rigged it over the door,
When Jason got home, bam! Boy, did it pour!

We both laughed about it and when Jason, soak and wet, said, “Um a get you back.”
I thought on the conversation I heard on the phone and replied, “I heard that!”
I put itching powder inside Jason’s pillowcase,
And laughed as he constantly scratched his face.
I put bubble gum in his cereal, salt in his ice cubes and super glued the strings on his sneakers and shoes.

Funny. That's just like us women to "jump to conclusions."
It feels good to write.
