The Great Adventure

Hi! My name is Elvis and I have a best friend named Blondie. We are Yorkshire terriers and we live with our Mommie-Lyn and Dan-Daddy in a big house in the woods by the river.

We are very small and when we go outside we are not allowed to go very far from our house. There are big dogs that live near us and Mommie-Lyn is afraid they might hurt us. There are also owls, which are big flying animals that live in our woods. They might think we are food to catch and take us home for supper.

And, since Mommie-Lyn does not know if we can swim, she does not want us to go near the river either. I know it seems like we don’t have much fun, but really we do. We just can’t do dangerous things. We are allowed to run outside close to the house. We can jump in the leaves and sniff the trees where the squirrels have been. Sometimes we even see a real bird or a lizard.

We also play with our friends, the big fluffy tan dog, “Blue-eyes,” and the two cats, “Sylvester” and “Tweetie.” They are so much fun. “Blue-eyes” lets us climb on top of her and she licks us to tell us she likes us a lot.

The cats rub their heads on us and purr to let us know they like us. We bark and bark at all three of them, but they don’t mind. I think they like it that we talk to them.

We are never alone when we go outside. Mommie-Lyn or Dan-Daddy is right there to protect us from any harm. That makes us feel very safe.

One day, after the humans had gone to work, we were asleep in our room, which is Mommie-Lyn’s laundry room. When we woke up, we noticed that we could hear something right outside the laundry room door.

Now this is the back door to our house and usually we don’t hear things that loudly from the other side. Blondie and I decided that it was most unusual to hear so clearly, so we put our noses next to where the door opens.

Wow! That’s funny! Usually the door doesn’t move. But it moved this time. We pushed our noses a little harder and the door moved open a little bit more. We could see that it was “Sylvester” the cat rubbing and purring on the back door. We pushed our noses a little more and the door came open real wide and we could see outside just as plain as can be. I looked at Blondie and she looked at me and we both barked with excitement and just that quick we were outside! Wow! This is great!
