As mentioned above: “Get into the habit of always collecting e-mail addresses at functions, meetings, or on your website. Of course, assure anyone who signs up that you won’t use their e-mail addresses for anything else, but for the sole purpose of keeping them informed about your cause.” Then, when you’re ready for an online fundraiser, or someone else is able to start the campaign, you’re already a big step ahead!

Couldn't agree more with this - "Get into the habit of always collecting e-mail addresses" - you can't ever have enough contacts for any business or non-profit venture. All kinds of great online fundraising ideas will just plain fail if you don't have the mailing list to back them up. But I have to disagree with the idea that selling stuff to benefit your charitable cause is a good idea. The margins are just too low when people who really want to help the cause are willing to give money if you ask the right way. Look at the success of online fundraising for marathons, walkathons, awareness months, even "non-events" - people are raising money in the thousands by emailing their friends and families with a personal fundraising page. Nonprofit organizations and individual fundraisers can sign up free for online fundraising pages at firstgiving.com and many others.
Marita always has fresh ideas rolling around in her head. I have never met a person who lives in the field of imagination so practically-- if one can join the two aspects of thinking. She has never sent me down the wrong road. I respect her advice and friendship. Listen to her people!! Looking forward to a great website here! Bettye
