Life always comes up with challenges; some of them old some of them new. Recently I’ve seen a couple of articles about smelling the roses. During my plodding around town, I notice mothers whizzing by to pick up their children to take them to piano or ballet. I see men concentrating hard to bring home the bacon. Even when their officially off-duty, their ears are planted on mobile (cell) phones from clients wanting this or wanting that, oblivious to the fact that it is in the personal time of the man trying to bring home that bacon.
Similarly weekends are now crowded out with events. Expo this, seminar this, seminar that, Rugby trips, symposiums for ever profession under the sun. Including Sundays mind you. We cannot go wasting them doing useless things like taking it easy or going to church, we have to go shopping for more things that we really cannot afford now that we have seven day a week trading.
Oh, whilst we are there, we have to pick up the teenage daughter working for peanut in a national supermarket retail or fast food chain. Then there is of course the household chores which have been left all week because both mother and father have professional jobs during the week so there is no time to do the simple things like cooking, cleaning, washing, and ironing. These now in part need to be outsourced and since this happens we then have to ensure that enough bacon is coming home to pay for all the additional mouths to fed in this rapidly accelerating merry-go-round.
Then we must find time to smell the roses; does anyone have time to grow these things these daze?
