Eleanor Roosevelt said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” When I read that I thought I had dreams, however, does it mean I can accomplish them? When I pondered this longer, I realized my thoughts have changed at different times of my life. At sixty-one my dreams are very different then they were when I was much younger. However, there is one vision I still have: winning the lottery.
Did you ever think about what you would do if you won the lottery? I have and my plan is ready when I win. In fact, I’m sure I’ll win someday. I just hope when I do, I’m not old and feeble and have no idea of what it really means.
Would winning the lottery empower you to fulfill your dreams? Is it money that can make dreams come true or is it hard work. Being able to pay all your bills on a monthly basis is certainly important. And when you are short of cash, life can be filled with tension. So how will we cope with this coming year as food and gas prices increase and our salaries stay the same? Are your dreams surpassed by just surviving?
Every time I put the news on in the morning I ask myself who has heartache today. People are being laid off. Life is not easy when you pay almost four dollars a gallon for gasoline. Then they tell us food prices have raised considerably in the past year impacting our budget even more. Talk about doom and gloom. Where do we place the dreams when today it appears we are just struggling to survive?
So Eleanor, I think I’ll just put your dreams and its beauty on hold for now. I see many of us having to find part time jobs and some may have to work two jobs in order to make ends meet. Struggling to survive and thinking little about their dreams.
I’ll acquire advice on spending and think about what I can do to help those less fortunate. A number of people don’t have enough food to get by for the day. Several will be seniors because all they have is their Social Security. I saw one man being interviewed who said he’ll resort to eating just one meal a day in order to get by. I felt sad when I thought about all the money we send to other countries; it seemed to me we should be taking care of our own first. Most of us average people agree and just don’t know how to change it. I blame all this on our political system. I’m sorry I don’t understand more so I could help fix it. Even the current election is a joke. Seems to me none of the candidates will make a difference we’ll feel. We know it and yet everyday we are inundated with their faces and promises. And after election, we know life will stay the same. Most of us don’t even want to turn on the television. All we see is the next primary and frankly we don’t care.
I’ll put my dreams on hold and I’ll continue to wish for the lottery. That would change everything and I would immediately put my plan into action. Otherwise, like many others I’ll get through the weeks hoping our country gets stronger and the oil and food crisis somehow get better. Should I buckle up, accept this, and admit little will change?
Did I depress you today? Sorry, tomorrow I’ll write something happy I promise. However, I’m really concerned for all of us and how we’re facing our current economical conditions? Are you feeling the pinch and how are you coping? If you have any ideas I’d sure like to hear them. I don’t ever remember times like this before and I think it’s affecting all ages and families. Hope you’ll take a moment to let me know. My dreams are still with me just on hold. I’ll share them sometime in the future if you want to hear them. I’d like to know yours as well. Maybe we can do a post where everyone puts a short sentence in comments and tells us what their dream is. Meanwhile, let’s get through this tough financial time. Sharing our thoughts, knowing someone out here cares. It’s us, me, and our readers. Thank you.
