Single and Loving It at Forty-Two

By: Queen of Caribbean Radio Trailblazer (View Profile)

I am a seriously single, well-ripened, middle-aged woman, and I’m enjoying it, but why do some feel that that gives them a free pass to my panties? Please!

People in my circle of fire know that “I’m a friendly girl” (Halle Berry, Swordfish), however, not that friendly, because it comes with a price—at least these days. Let’s just say I finally learned the meaning of “marry for money and not for love.” Later for the love stuff ... that was back in the days when I really thought that I could make a difference and I would be the one that married for love and that it could really work. It did not, and I am over it since my ex-hubby has been married for the last twenty years to the woman he cheated on me with (whether he likes it or not—it truly was his choice). I don’t hate him for it ... albeit, it did take me five years before I could speak to him in a civil manner. Long story and no need to hit the rewind button now.

Let’s just say that with age comes enlightenment. These days I no longer hold the stringent rules I once held, and as long as I do not hurt anyone outright, all is fair in the game of ... well you know. Yes, you could say that is scandalous, but seriously, who else besides God truly loves me? Or, for that matter, can judge me—so stop while you’re ahead. When does the good Karma come back around? When does it all pay off? Paying it forward? I need to cash in right about now. Or, is it as Pharell said, “Cheat on your man, that’s the only way you get ahead, Ma.” I don’t believe or subscribe to that personally because playing with people’s emotions takes way too much energy and it’s more important for me to contribute something positive than worry about who’s chasing the cat and who will tackle. Furthermore, I’ve been hurt way too many times to put someone else through it.
