Pregnancy Calendar – Week Nine

At almost one inch long, your baby-to-be is about the size of a large grape! The embryonic period is almost complete: most of the developing physical structures such as the head, arms, legs, and torso are in place, and are now ready to grow rapidly. The fingers and toes are better defined and the plates of the skull are forming. The baby’s head is more erect; however, it still looks slightly larger than the rest of the body. The earlobes have formed, and during this week, the inner structures of the ears will be completed. The baby’s upper lip is fully formed, and the mouth and nose are more distinct. Small eyelids are forming and almost cover the eyes. The retinal nerve cells in the back of the eyes are growing. By this point, the baby’s heart has most likely divided into four separate chambers. At nine weeks, your little one has started developing sex organs, but they won’t be discernible as male or female yet.

Many women report some nasal congestion during pregnancy. This stuffiness is due to increased blood flow, which causes swelling of the mucus membranes. Nosebleeds and snoring are also common concerns related to this swelling—some women report having postnasal drip and cough. To help you breathe easier, try using a saline spray or saline drops in your nose. Since nasal congestion is aggravated by dry air, use a humidifier to add moisture to the air, especially at night. If needed, ask your doctor which medications are safe to help with congestion.

You may be apprehensive about the changes that are happening in your body now and that will continue during the next several months. Many women have struggled with the fear of giving up control of their bodies in order to have children. You can remind yourself that the changes are happening for a very good reason: you’re creating a baby! Some women report feeling more comfortable with their bodies during pregnancy; they feel more relaxed and have a sense of peace. Feeling alternately ecstatic and terrified about becoming a parent is also completely normal. Almost all expectant moms worry about how a new baby will change their lives. Hi everyone, I am also 9 weeks pregnant. I read some comments and I saw one by Holly who is 37, she is nervous about the pregnancy, Honey I am in the same boat I am 40 and on my third child. My other two children are 16 and 10, two girls, quit an age difference. I was really nervous at first because of my age, but I have read up alot and as long as you take care of yourself everything should be fine. Remember age is only a number, things are different than they were years ago people tell me 40 is the new 20, LOL! I also heard of women older than us that have had children, so relax and enjoy. God Bless Everyone.

I am 9 weeks also with my third baby. My husband and I have a 6yr old daughter and a 3 1/2yr old daughter, they are very excited. They want a brother and my husband of course wants a son. I just want a healthy baby. Our oldest was a preemie with breathing problems, heart problems, upper GI problems, and has wore glasses since age 4. But, now she is just as wild and active as any other 6yr olds, luckily she is much healthier now with just a few problems, and she is very smart. Good Luck to everyone and may God Bless your pregnancies and families.

Hello to all. I am 9 wks. along with my third child. What a shock it was. My other two are near grown. I am 37 and was thinking about life without children in the house, LOL. My fiance is happy and scared, this is his first child. I am really anxious, can't sleep, wake from nightmares and keep having panic attacks. I keep thinking I am too old to birth a baby. Sorry to be on the down side. Hopefully things will get better. My heart goes out to you all and wish everyone a fast road to feeling physically better, they say it should go away by wk. 14. Take care everyone. ~Holly
