Sarah Palin as VP?

By: Sybil Sage (View Profile)

Early this morning Joe Scarborough, Andrea Mitchell, and Peggy Noonan were continually interrupting their dissection of Obama’s speech in an effort to track the whereabouts of the likely VP candidates for John McCain, dismissing each as he was discovered not to be en route to join McCain in Dayton.

The suspense was a gift. It would have been a jarring “Morning After” to go to bed with Barack Obama and wake up with Joe Lieberman, an experience not unknown to many women.

It was then announced that McCain’s choice is Alaska’s Sarah Palin, whose experience is being questioned as she’s been Governor for eighteen months, and prior to that was the mayor of a town of 8,000. With further probing, maybe her resume will prove to include having been in student government or that she’d served on a condo board, which would add immeasurably to her credentials.

In her initial introductory speech, the VP candidate showed she has good hair, the requisite lapel pin and kids with names that sound like butterfly species, which raises the issue of judgment.

Smart move on McCain's part ... goin' after the vote all the disgruntled Hillary supporters and the E.R.A. pushers and backers. Just maybe, Obama should have chosen Hillary as a running mate. We'll find out Nov. 4th.

Governor Sarah Palin is an amazing woman, public servant and, yes, hockey mom. John McCain was blessed to have found her and wise to have chosen her. Freshman senator Obama should only have been so lucky in his choice of running mate. The only regret I have is that Alaska will be hard-pressed to find another governor as terrific as the one they will be sending to Washington, D.C. It's about time we have a woman in charge.

I am an Independent voter who has never voted other than Democratic. I am pro-choice, anti-war and concerned about the environment. But this go round I will vote for Senator McCain. I am a Hillary Clinton supporter, and do not in the least feel patronized. Not any woman would do, that is true, but I am extremely interested in seeing a capable woman in higher office, and I am impressed with Sarah Palin. I knew of her before Senator McCain chose her, and I think she is intelligent, energetic, ethical and very, very interesting. I admit I am much more a liberal vegetarian type, not a conservative ,but I don't need to have someone just like me in the office. I am not concerned about Roe V Wade, and I don't think it needs to be so heavily used as a fear tactic in elections. If we start comparing resumes, Ms Palin has more executive experience than either Senator Obama or McCain. I do think that a governor on either ticket is definitely a bonus, and she is well versed in energy issues.

Diva's Shadow
On the surface it may seem that John McCain has one-upped the Demorcrats campaign with his decision to pick Palin as his running mate. However, I think the move patronizes women and all of the 18 million Hillary Clinton supporters. Sara Palin is no Hillary. America can now look forward to the reversal of Roe vs. Wade. Do the Republicans really believe just any woman will do to lure Hillary's supporters? Have they not learned that women are independent thinkers. This decision alone makes me believe that McCain is out of touch with voters. In my brief google research of Palin, she is the woman, women secretly love to hate...she seems to have it ALL. Suburban soccer...sorry... ice hockey mom, beauty queen, played basketball, great husband, five kids while holding a full time job and making it all look easy!!! Ugh!!!
