I could probably get cheaper insurance through Progressive or Geico, and I used to have one of the discount insurers years ago. But when I got married, I followed my husband to Allstate, and I'm glad I did. My Allstate Guy is named Slayton, and he usually answers his own phone. When an assistant answers, he's always there to take the call. And for someone who hasn't had an accident or a speeding ticket in years, I seem to need to call Slayton a lot. I'm always wanting lower premiums. "Slayton, it's me again. What can we do to lower my premium?" Usually, he has an idea or two. We made a claim once when a tree fell down in our yard. We got the check promptly. I can't say that a cheaper insurance company wouldn't have done the same thing, but I'm the kind of person who would rather call a person I know than an 800 number.

Are You a Cheap Tipper?
Yes, we all know 15 percent is expected at restaurants, but what about the hair salon? The taxi? The guy who shampoos your hair? How do you know what’s appropriate in those tipping grey areas? Enlighten us here. >>
