Brand:Safronya Retreat
Product:Sun Relief Facial & Foot Soak

I just had the most amazing and memorable spa experience in India (well, not really in India, but it certainly felt like I was immersed in the culture itself). Nestled in a residential neighborhood outside of San Francisco, the Safronya Retreat is a warm and welcoming day spa that provides dozens of services based on Ayurveda, the holistic medicinal science originating in India. I had never heard of this practice, so I was intrigued to discover why it was known for helping people achieve a more positive and healthy lifestyle.

I first received a Sun Relief facial since my sun-damaged and hyper-pigmented skin was screaming for attention. The treatment included a peel to prevent the synthesis of melanin and used herbal extracts to cool and firm my skin. The practitioner not only cleared up my pores and left my skin glowing, she also relaxed my mind by messaging my shoulders and neck, and gently touching marmas (vital energy points).

Then I slipped on a robe and entered a room with small water fountains and candles spread all about. I was given a foot soak using warm water, Saffron, honey, milk, and essential oils – a powerful aromatic combination that was unlike anything I’d ever smelled. Who would have thought – milk on our feet? It was genius. Dead cells were brushed off my feet and legs, and my toes and heels were so perfectly massaged I thought I wouldn’t be able to stand up. It was then that I realized I’ll never be able to go back to the typical 15 minute nail salon pedicure with woman yapping all around me.

There were so many more services that I wanted to experience that day – point massage, Indian steam bath, detoxifying wrap, nutrition and cooking classes, one-on-one yoga…the list goes on and on. See for yourself
